Please help with my Flame Angel and Royal Gramma

Hi,

I have a few fish in my 55 that aren't doing well. Both my Flame Angel and my Royal Gramma have been hiding more than usual in the last week. They had still been eating though. Today, neither one of them ate when I fed the tank so I have been watching them carefully since. The Flame Angel has been swimming in place in one spot in the tank and has a white spot on one eye. I only noticed the spot in the last hour. My gramma is really well hidden and we had to move the rock a bit to find him.

In the tank are also two clownfish, who seem to be fine, two cleaner shrimp, one fire shrimp, three peppermints shrimp and various snails and a lone hermit crab.

I have 50 pounds of live rock and 20 pounds of base rock.

I have a 10 gallon Quarantine tank available. Unfortunately, it has a new arrival in it.

Last night my water tested:

PH 8.4
SG 1.023
Ammonia .1
Nitrite .1
Nitrates 1 (slight colour to the water no where near the first colour sample on the test kit)

Does anyone know what might be bothering my fish? And if so, does anyone have any idea what might help them?

Thank you.

you need to get the ammonia and nitrite down to 0ppm. i would start with a water change and then dose the tank with sea chems prime if you have any to temporarily detoxify the ammonia and nitrite.

how long has this tank been set up? an established tank shouldnt have any readings for those two.

The tank has been set up since September of 2008. I added my first fish in late November.

Unfortunately, since this post, all of my fish had what appears to be velvet. I moved them to my quarantine and started treatment, but it was too late :(

I am going to leave my tank fish-less for several months and during that time I will try to solve the slight ammonia and nitrite levels that I saw. Oddly enough, the day after I posted those test results, the ammonia was back to zero.
