Plumbing question

So, the rots are good for a reef tank.... What about Phyto? Will I be adding that to my reef tank? Or is it just in the cultures? Can I drill to make an overflow with rigid tubing to flex tubing and that way have only one drip line and the water leaves when it has gained enough? Is this type of idea what hvacman is talking about?

Phyto is excellent for filter feeders and it's an important part of a healthy reef, people don't use it frequently because who wants green water, but in general phyto is excellent.

Would it be best to use at night maybe? So I'm not looking into a green tank? I plan to use my 5 gallon buckets for rots, but wasn't sure if I would or could add it to my tank to supplement.

Drill. Why risk a flood as small as it could be... It will happen it always does its just a matter of time
