Hardware store silicone would not be recomended. It will fail. what kind of plastic sheeting is that. a Solvent weld would be better for sealing them together......

Master of mosaics. You are awesome with it .you're main tank looks so elegant and modern it's awesome. The idea of putting that in a kitchen is my favorite. To use that as like a island it's just awesome I love it.

Hardware store silicone is fine. I know this because I'm actually using it. :)
Use the ge plastic silicon in the the plastic sheeting and glass section at hd , it's in the red tube. Works great just make sure you let it dry for couple days so that it fully cures

Solvent weld for plastics still a better seal, If you use silicone give it a full week before putting in water. It takes at least that long to fully cure and you don't want any of the nasty stuff it releases during curing getting into the water.

Number one mistake people make with silicone is following the directions on a homedepot tube that says water proof in 1hr. that just means it has skinned over still takes up to a week or more to cure all the way thru, thicker the bead longer the cure time.

Most silicones from the hardware store have additives to inhibit mold growth that are bad for an aquarium. I think you should use epoxy for the inside of the tank.

Dangit. ...now I gotta go make a plywood frags tank......I've been told the silicone on the right is okay to use. Just make sure it isn't mold and mildew resistant and give it plenty time to cure.

AFAIK that additive would be the silicone :) the "microban" labels and such are just marketing. if there was an "additive" it would be listed and it's not.

Really it's just the wrong type of silicone. there are much better choices. a structural silicone is what is used for tank seams. Much stickier and far better bond. But on plastics a solvent bond is better by far. silicone doesn't stick well to any type of plastic.

Won't harm the tank but will not hold up when submerged over time. Says so on the label.
