I have seen people making sumps or top-only-view tanks using plywood and EPDM pond liner.
Since, if I'm correct, bulkhead gaskets are made of EPDM, could we put a bulkhead on one of these sumps? Using a little piece of acrylic between the liner and the plywood might help to have flat surface in order to have a leakproof seal. Something like this:
