Pods

Should my tank have pods? It's been running since October. I've added them once but also crashed my tank 2x with high ammonia. Aren't they kind of naturally occurring? I look with a flashlight and don't see anything.

I got a scooter blenny and they said/showed me they eat frozen but I want pods. No sump, 40 gallon.

thank you!

Pods can occurs from actual Live Rock however if your system crashed they may have all died.

Scooter blennies are actually dragonets and they eat live food like pods. If there isn't a good population they will likely die unless previously eating frozen food. I would buy some pods ASAP from Algaebarn

For any hope of maintaining dragonets start with this:
https://www.algaebarn.com/product/combo-5280-pods-oceanmagik-phyto/

It's a combo of pods that will live and reproduce in your system with the phyto. They phyto will feed the pods as you may not have anything for them to eat in your system.

Dragonets are difficult to keep especially in new systems because they have no natural food to eat. Freshly hatched brine shrimp are another good food source, but you will need some equipment and research to produce them on a daily basis.

Still it maybe best that you donate the fish to someone with an established system until you are ready to feed him well. They often starve to death.

Also I hope that the issues that caused the crashes has been resolved. Good luck

I made sure it would eat frozen before I got him because I have read a lot and know they eat pods. The guy showed me and said they are raised on frozen. It's a huge saltwater place in Dayton, not that it matters but I think he'd have been honest, he was with all of my other questions. Even about housing 2 pistol shrimp in one tank, he's the first one who said might not be a great idea.

I am not going to be lax in my tank maintenance. I am watching how much I feed - it was my fault, especially the 2nd time. I was just letting the tank run and doing nothing. Not sure what possessed me to think that was ok. Weekly water and parameter checks from now on.

So, I need phyto. Ok, thank you. I'll get some and some pods. He's adorable and I don't want him to starve.

thank you!

I checked that site and their BOGO is great but I signed up and it's only good 72 hours and I'm out of town next week so I asked if the can extend that so I can order for when I get home.
