Hello,

I am trying to get a feel for who runs what kind of Sandbed, and where.

The poll has the following options:

DSB In the Display tank, no remote sand bed
SSB In the Display tank, no remote sand bed
BB in the Display tank, no remote sand bed
DSB in the Display tank, and a Remote DSB (like in refugium)
SSB in the Display tank, and a Remote DSB
BB in the Display tank, and a remote DSB

I am particularly interested in hearing about peoples reasons for choosing what they did.

I personally am considering putting a DSB in my 220 display AND in my 50G remote refugium. I want to have all the burrowing digging inverts and gobies, and I want to be able to place my elegance in the sandbed too.

Is there anything wrong with 2 DSBs?

Another thing I'd like to hear from those with DSBs (display or remote):

How often do you clean/maintain the DSB? Does anybody entirely leave it alone (with the exception of using a powerhead to blow out detritus), and let the critters do the work?

Thanks everybody!
Ryan

DSB=deep sand bed (4-5" or more)
SSB=shallow sand bed (1-3")
BB=bare bottom

I am still setting my tank up so I guess I don't technically "have" a DSB in my display. I am going to have one with a pearly jawfish and a fighting conch to stir things up. I'll also put a fox coral on the sand bed. I plan to leave it alone other than the critters.

i have a dsb in both. originally i had a 58 display with a ssb which i hydrocleaned monthly. i have a 30 gal 'fuge which was originally for the 58 but is now on a 90 gal. the 90 also has a dsb. i have left both alone, and stocked both with snails and worms to keep it clean. i also got a nice variety of hitchhikers from my ~100 lbs live rock, which is present both in tank and in sump
