Polyester fiber filter floss leaching phosphate

I have been using poly pillow material for mechanical filtration and read the antimicrobial kind was the poly to use. I have been chasing phosphate problem and figured it's time for a larger water change of 20 gallons in a 65 falling tank and after the phosphate levels did not drop.
Has anyone tested the poly they use to see if it leaches phosphates?
I checked a small baseball size piece in a cup of riding water and tested 1.2ppm phosphate.

Yes, i got a brand new rodi unit and tested phosphates with a hanna checker and came out 0. added the poly and waited maybe an hour and retested.

I have been replacing the poly everyday since it was so cheap.
I run it in a filter and on the output of the skimmer

I also use the poly but I use it in a spare reactor to clean up when I stir up the sand. It's on for a few hours until the water clears and I remove it and throw it out. That said, I've not noticed any issues.
