What are the factors that go into having great polyp extension on SPS? I know low nitrate and phosphate are a must, but what about random flow? feeding? stability of parameters?
Besides what was already mentioned, correct lighting. I have noticed that on some of my corals, parts of the coral not getting blasted by light, have better polyp extension, while on other corals it doesn't matter. Also things that affect PE are coral nippers such as angels. and pests.
What's funny about PE, at least in my tank is that some corals have good PE while others have none. So I pretty much gave up trying. So long as the corals are growing, have good color, and levels are good I'm happy.
