i wonder if his LFS asks him whats in his tank before they sell him thoes types of fish ? its amazing what some one will do for money as they have to know it wont work for long .

Even if they ask and advise against it, they can't really stop him from buying it anyways.

Well his stock list shows a snowflake eel and an angler, so his livestock list will be much shorter in the near future.

Reef job , where i work we dont sell any fish that we dont think will co exist with the other fish its going to live with . yes we lose sales but we keep customers by always using the correct advise regardless of how bad they want it .
i think your talking about petco or some other chain store and if not they are simply jerks for not asking . we dont sell fish to become a meal where i work and people never question our authority but rather respect it .
we even have a store nearby that runs great sales on fish that just came in yesterday and have ick on them and people wonder why their tank is messed up . its not from our doing i must say .

My LFS once tried to sell me a couple of angel fish and a butterfly telling me that they were "reef-safe"...

"Some" LFS are seriously just in for the money and then we have other's like iamwrasseman said that are just great when it comes to serving their customers!

That is great to hear and honestly I wish every fish store followed the same practice. But I mean even in a store like yours, if a person is determined enough they'll lie about tank sizes & stocking list just to pass your quiz. I'm sure most people do respect the advise you give but I've worked in retail and know first hand that others will just ignore everything you say. I remember one guy wanted to place 4x8 sections of untreated plywood on the side of his house using glue.... lol needless to say I strongly advised against it but unfortunately I couldn't stop him from doing it anyways.

i totally understand that we really have no control over what someone puts in their tank but we do ask how many fish ,the age of the tank and what fish are in the tank . yes they can lie of go purchase fish somewhere else and have bad results but we dont try to contribute to it in any way thats why we ask .
almost every day i hear someone in the store telling a customer that they wont sell them that fish invert coral or whatever it may be because the conditions or setting is not correct . people actually then start asking questions and getting educated on compatibility within their current tank and also something in the planning stages .
that being said there will always be sommething slipping by because of misinformation or like i said them just wanting it and going else where and purchasing it .they will some day learn i hope .
