I have a porcupine puffer and it was feeding straight away. Mine has a really big appetite and is constantly coming to the front of the tank pleading to be fed. I bought mine at my local LFS and observed it's behaviour and got a shop assistant to feed it some shrimp for me to see. This porky puffer eats literally like a pig. However, I previously had one which I got from mail order (never doing that again) and it arrived in reasonably good condition but was very timid indeed. It was docile and always hid behind rocks. It took me over a week to get it to even nibble at some lance fish and shrimp. After 2-3 weeks it started to more readily eat food soaked in garlic. It still never had the appetite of my current puffer. Sadly, my first porky puffer perished during a bout of ich in my main tank following a problem with my heater. My current puffer loves lance fish, cockles, mussels, mysis, live river shrimp, actually pretty much anything! Anyone looking to get one should definitely observe them eating before buying. If they look healthy and are bold in coming to the front of the tank, then that's a good fish to buy.
