Possible interesting red bug remedy

This is just an anecdotal account that I have experienced over the past few weeks but it has killed all my red bugs.

I was running zeovit and posting my results on the forum, I had a KZ potassium test kit that was not getting fully cloudy. I posted a series of pics up over the course of adding KCL to my tank along with zeovit k balance, I added fairly sensibly and kep retesting and posting pics (zeo forum, test kits sub section). The test kit always showed I had low K levels in the sub 350 range. I kept adding the KCL and then alarm bells started ringing as my acro crabs died followed by all the pods going missing. A few snails slowed down and two died. Then my Yellow tang started to respire rapidly. I stopped dosing and began to suspect the test kit, I then purchased a fauna marin and it turns out my potassium level was over 500!
I have done some large water changes and now it has fallen to 460! During the time my sps only retracted when I added the KCL and the came out again and I have not lost a single colony (lucky).

The KZ test kit was a year old and I never stored it in the fridge as fauna marin recommends but it is a truly awful kit as many know.

I now have no red-bugs though so there may be a silver lining, has anyone ever had a similar experience to this with potassium chloride?

Thanks.
