Possible Sump

I am in the process of pulling together the equipment for a new shallow reef tank. The tank will be 74x40x25 and I am looking into possible sumps.

I like this non-traditional one from rubbermaid and would like to hear thoughts from anyone who has used something like it before. In the past I have had the normal under the stand acrylic sumps, but I have much more room at our new place for something a little larger.

My Concerns with this as a possible sump is the risk of it leaching chemicals into the water and its long term durability. I think the upside is there is so much space it is easy to work with.

Thanks!

for my old tank I used them without any issues, long term and short term. Premium Aquatics uses them for there rock vats, as well as a lot of other shops I have been to. You will have no issues from leaching anything :)

Use it, I have two I have been using for awhile now no issues. A couple LFS (around here too) use those for their rock vats.

Thanks serenity and Alphabet, it makes me much more comfortable hearing that many people are using these.

Alphabet, Did you add any extra bulkhead fittings to yours or are you using the one existing one? I would like to have a 2nd line coming out of it to use an external pump.

Thanks!

I drilled the ones I used into swiss cheese. I used the one at the bottom for the return pump just b/c it was already at the bottom, but I put a lot of bulkheads into mine. Drill away my friend :D
