Possibly cheaper corals locally

Just as an FYI type itme...

I was in Pet Kare in Governors square Friday night. They aparently are switching suppliers and will be getting much better prices on their corals, and SUPPOSEDLY will be passing the savings on to us.

They are planning on getting their first shipment from the new supplier on Friday the 13th :eek2:

Again, informaitonal purposes only, I have no idea if the prices are really going to be that much better or not, but thought I'd pass on the information that was given to me.

Happy Easter!

Do you have any information on the type of corals they will be bringing in. How is the selection and quality normally up there?

Chris

They sometimes have ok prices, it was nice when they would get stuff in and didn't know what is was sometimes and price it cheap. I bought a crocea clam there for about 40 bucks, not a bad deal. There prices on corals now are high, hopefully they do pass the savings on to us. As far as quality goes, I do see a lot of things die there. Hopefully now that they have metal halides on there 150g, things will get better. They aren't always the most informed either, hopefully everyone knows what they are doing. No offense to them, but I wouldn't take their advice. Last time I was there, they had a 6" panther grouper in with a 4" undulated trigger, I don't know how much longer the grouper lasted after I told them to get it out. Thanks for the news craig, might be worth stopping down there friday for some people, my pockets still have holes in them, haha.

Their prices ahve always been negotiable, you just have to ask :D They wouldn't give the farm away, but 9 times out of 10 you could get a pretty good deal.

One of the guys, as an example, told me that an (approx) 3-4" acro is going to cost them $10 - said we should see it for about $20-$25.

I like the guys in there, but agree about information, I only trust Mark for FW info and Frank for SW both really seem to know what they're talking about.

Yeah, my brother and I know the owner and managers, and most of the fish guys as well. They are nice guys. Is frank the bigger guy that is mostly coral oriented? We never seemed to click since I had 3 angels that eat corals, haha. Although I am getting into the corals now, they are just expensive. I am starting up a mixed reef 30g. Already need to upgrade, especially the lights. That seems pretty cheap for acro, depending on which ones they get in.

Yeah -Frank is the big guy - "Coral oriented" couldn't have said it better myself. Really nice guy, and really does know his stuff. What kind of lights do you need for the 30g? I'm trying to unload some PCs

I stopped in there today. Decent display tank, and Frank is a really nice guy. Looks like they are trying to get the saltwater section up and running. Needs some hair alge clean up though.

He seemed very helpful to order anything that I was looking for if it was avail and said that he would give a good price.

Good frozen food section too, which is nice with the crosshatches that I just got.

Will be checking in to see how the cleanup progresses.

It really depends on the week with their hair algae. Apparently the boss was trying to use the new supplier as motivation for them to get it cleaned up, said they weren't allowed to order until it was gone....and I thought my wife was bad !!! =0)

Craig, I don't need PC lights, sorry. I am looking to get HO T5 lights whenever I get money. I have been trying to order a refractometer on ebay, but one guy will not return my messages! I want to combine shipping on the meter and a halide bulb for my brother. Looks like I will have to take my business else where. So is tomorrow the big day for petkare?

Yeah - they are supposed to be getting the new shipment today. I'm going to swing by at lunch and see if the new stuff is in yet.

Here's for hoping

Nothing - apparently they weren't able to place the order - but Pet Kare II in newark got their order in yesterday. I'm going to try to swing by today.

I tried to go last night but the kids were being...let's say..."Less then cooperative"

They have saltwater now? I haven't been there in a long long time, but they didn't have anything saltwater except for a small 10-20g display tank on the ground! Didn't think they would start stocking salt, especially corals! Have to check there sometime, they usually had rare reptiles sometimes, hopefully goes with salt fish. Keep us updated craig, thanks.

I stopped by the Pet Kare in governors plaza, by the bear Library today. Spent a couple fun hours chatting with the guys there. They expect a goodly shipment of fish and corals on thurs.

sound like they are trying to make the most of their recent expansion into saltwater and reef aquaria. should be some good things to choose from for fish and acros. they have an interesting plug and play 37 glass nano cube in stock also. tank, stand, built in skimmer, pumps, light hood. just add water.

It's Nice to have more places to choose from. I Hope they do well.
