Post Your Canopy Photos...Please

Hey all,

In the next two months I'm going to be purchasing a black pine canopy for my 125 gallon acrylic tank. Right now I'm in the research phase of deciding how I want the canopy to open and generally function. I was hoping if you all have some spare time on your hands you could share what your canopies look like both closed and open.

Cheers!

Brad

I kind of have a general idea:

I would like the front the front of the canopy to open upwards much like Jeffs does and to have a bracket system much like Jeff's which also opens upwards with the canopy. I would like two or three fans located in the back of the canopy which suck the hot air out through the open back.

Other than that I want the lights to be roughly 8-9 inches off of the surface water.

I don't want doors in the front of the canopy...just solid wood, as I don't like the light that escapes through.

Mine is real simple

nope this is Dan! :)

I like it except that my tank is 24 inches high. with the added height of the canopy, I can't reach the bottom of the tank :(

If this is Jeff, I thought yours opened upwards? If not, my apologies...but that's kind of what I'm aiming for.

Nope, on mine i built raised panel doors 2 on the front and one on each end.

I just snapped a couple of new ones from today

You can see from these how I mounted my reflectors.
I cut holes in the lid so that way I have room to add a couple of vho actinics on the inside of the lid

Mine opens like this one:

It was custom built and modeled after this setup. I'd show a picture, but it's buried in the garage until I move!

Also, the light spill from the doors is easy to fix by attaching a strip to the backside of one of the doors that covers the opening. It will limit you to opening 1 door before the other, but that's not really a problem, just takes a little getting used to.
Having doors or a flip open front makes accessing the tank much easier, especially if the tank is deep.

you don't want a lid on top. You have to go go with doors. Or the lamborghini canopy like Jeremy's. If the doors are built right like Jeremy said, you don't have to worry about light leakage. Both Jeff and I don't have light leakage.
