Post your Photos!!!

I thought it might be a good idea for us to share photos of reef/saltwater related tanks. I always liked looking at other peoples tanks to see the diversity. As this forum/club is a place to share and help each other, I figured maybe, well, ...... so here goes.... here's a left to right pan in 3 shots showing some of the new stuff I got in Cleveland:

I have not photo's to post but your tank looks nice. What size tank is that and what temperature is your lighting?

carb850, my tank is a 75 gallon with a 120 addition in the works... I'm using some hamilton 15k 250w de hqi's right now but I plan on switching to ushio 20k bulbs next time I'm due. Thanks for the kind words.
Phil, ha ha. He won't post real pictures of his tanks folks, he's too cool for that sharing kinda thing;)

There's a positive spin on things... good thing the rest of Reef Central doesn't have the same view. I could see it now,"Thanks for the nomination of tank of the month, but I wouldn't want to share any info or pictures of my tank(s) for fear of them being stolen. That sure is one way to promote "community". "...this forum/club is a place to share and help each other..." Your officers have spoken... Go CVRC!!! LOL
Here is as close to a mission statement that I could find for the club ala Ron,"We are a group of reef keeping enthusiasts gathered together for the purpose of education and propagation of our corals to provide a steady healthy supply of creatures for new hobbyists in our area. We extend into the entire Tri-State region and are based in the Nitro area of West Virginia. We meet about every other month for a swap and table sale in which we provide demonstrations and educational programs designed by our members. We invite everyone both novice and expert to join our group for the betterment of our hobby." ...hmmmmmm makes one wonder...

Hey! I know! We should have another photo contest like the wildly successful one back in..... 2007?!:eek1: Wonder who was the 1 who moderated that......

taz: Tank looks nice. Once those frags grow up im sure it will look even better. I like all the stars! Have you had them long?

Anywhere from 3 to 6 months. I feed them by taking them out and placing them in a bowl with vitachem laced foodstuffs and planktonic foods. I leave them in there for a couple of hours by then most of the food is gone. I learned it from a nano tank of the month winner who wasn't using any filtration on her tank and she needed to keep the wastes down to a minimum but also wanted to keep a purple linkia alive. Chopped up oysters are one of the best foods for any starfish especially linkias, but can be impossible to feed in a tank. Taking them out and putting them in a bowl solves the competition thing. Years ago we used to use linkias in our tanks to hunt out the dying oysters that came in on the live rock. They are drawn to them like a magnet. So it makes sense to me to feed them the same. I think I have about 6 ornamental type starfish including 2 linkias one of which is my blue monster. It's about 8 or 10 inches across stretched out.

probably doesn't want his house robbed. LOL

As much as I hate to agree with Phil, Mary's statement is true. It is quite unlikely that you will ever see huge tank crawls in this area like you see with other clubs. At least not for a while.

There's a positive spin on things... good thing the rest of Reef Central doesn't have the same view. I could see it now,"Thanks for the nomination of tank of the month, but I wouldn't want to share any info or pictures of my tank(s) for fear of them being stolen.

Big difference there, The RC TOM is an online event, you don't see the TOM's owners address or phone number posted, information and pictures are all fine and good as long as no one knows where the tank with $30,000 worth of coral is located, think about t it, it's just to dangerous today.

I used to post pics of my tank and information but I got to many PMs wanting stuff or wanting to argue about something I said and if I did sell a frag I would catch crap for that as well so I dont do it anymore. In short I have no reason to post pics as I am not trying to advertise my tank or its inhabitants and have nothing to prove. I personally can assure you that only a small handful of individuals will ever see my tank in person.

We are a group of reef keeping enthusiasts gathered together for the purpose of education and propagation of our corals to provide a steady healthy supply of creatures for new hobbyists in our area...

As far as the mission statement goes there are those of us who do indeed still practice what we preach. I have given away far more coral and information than I have ever sold and I expect nothing in exchange, my hope is that everyone here will eventually do the same, that is why we started this group but please be careful, I am sure there are those out there who may seek to undermine your trust and generosity for there own selfish purposes and they are likely to find our group one day if they have not already done so.

Thats a nice pic but the tank looks a bit jumbled to me. It looks like a tank at one of the LFS I used to go to, they would set there coral on rocks like that rather than shelves, it looked natural and gave customers an idea of what it would look like in there tank.
I hope I can make it to the swap I would like to pick up some different soft coral frags.

I do agree to a point Ron, but it is a shame that the reason we are here is subjugated like that. I will share in my way as I think we should all strive to do. Other people will not. But posting crap like mud puddles or statements like Mary's sure doesn't do anything to promote positive interaction between current members of the CVRC or potential new ones. It just makes this forum (and the CVRC) look like a joke. There are so many salty people in our area. Why can't we be a little more positive instead of shooting each other down all the time. What kills me is that it was okay to promote a photo contest years ago (which is a great idea) but now we want to deter people from posting a photo of a coral or fish now. It's not crack, it's coral.... lighten up

Is the club trying to deter people from posting photos? I don't recall reading anything like that but anything is possible. Even back this time last year when they had the photo contest it didn't seem to me like they were getting many entrants.

Everyone is different and has their own reason why they do or do not like to post photos. I like to post pictures of my stuff, I have all sorts of equipment and room photos posted on my build thread. I'm not posting pictures of my tanks for a couple of reasons. One, my camera doesn't do macro shots worth a d*** but more importantly I don't feel my tank is worthy of posting. My 40G was setup pretty much just to seed my dry work and now my 30G QT tank is just not finished. It has a 20" light on top of a 36" tank LOL

When I get my 120G up photos will be posted. I don't have any security concerns about posting photos of my stuff. Only a few know were I live and that does not concern me. Now a tank crawl would be different. I may or may not feel comfortable participating in such an event. Most likely I would not with a club open to the public. My cycling club is membership based and feels like a community. I would have no concern at all inviting any one of the 150+ people to my house for a BBQ or whatever.

Just a friendly word of advice on vlamingii's (I have two of them). They grow extremely fast. I had one to grown 10" in a years' time, from around 2" to about a foot long or more now. They're great fish, though.

jm I know... that's one of my bargaining chips to get a bigger tank;)

and carb... I make some mean ribs buddy:) its a process with the photos and I like your updates. My camera is not the greatest... I get like 1 good shot out of 20.

and L it is a bit jumbled... if I were to do one thing different it would be to put all the zoos in one area instead of all over like that. I've seen some really nice zoo garden sections in some larger tanks and I really like the way that looks.

I think you may be reading something into this a bit more than is there, Carb is 100% right, We dont discourage photos at all, and when I agreed with Phil and Mary I simply meant what Carb pointed out, until something changes there wont be any tank crawls or get togethers at a members house. As for the photo contest we simply saw no reasons to keep promoting something that only a few took seriously.

It's not crack, it's coral.... lighten up

I'm also not sure what this means but I do know that people get robbed, shot, mugged, etc over pairs of shoes, some of these coral in members tank have far more value than shoes or crack IMO. Unfortunately it is a security concern and there is nothing we can do about it. That said though, you all may do as you see fit in this matter.

One other thing,

"The true keeper of the reef" Post above, this is also no way to promote the community. This goes to everyone here, please be respectable of others opinions and feeling, what you see as a joke may have adverse reactions in others.

Taz, if you think this club is a joke then you should start your own. This way anyone who feels the same way you do can follow you in your endeavors. However, you may find that this "joke" of a club was not easy to create or run. There have been numerous times in the past when club members have disagreed, some have left and some have stayed. If you do not believe the club has followed its charter than start another. However, I think most people in the club have been helpful to each other. Those who have experience have tried to help newer members. I like to play a little. Maybe I should not have posted the pic of the mud hole but I thought it was funny. I am not ready to post a picture of my tank at this time but when I am I will share.

Good Lord!!!! It's a joke! In case you haven't noticed, we kid each other around here.. We are supposed to be among other things here, friends. Why would you take a response to your post so personal? Now, implying that the CVRC is a joke on the other hand after personally witnessing what it has taken to get it this far with basically the same core group, that, I, and I am sure a lot of others, do take personally. It is amazing to me how difficult it is to have an organization of like minded people get together every so often and share experiences and advice. Again, this group has been through a lot and we have stuck together to help each other and those new to the hobby, (you were once there yourself) and frankly I agree with Phil.. no one is keeping you here, if you can do better, start your own club.. Not trying to be a jerk, but I have been here since day one with this organization and I do take it personal...
