Is this fish reef safe in the 50-50 range I have had one in my DT for a few months no aparent problems. Yet!
I read that this is a 50-50 fish and is OK to add now I came across an article that says not reef safe and that Heniochus diphreutes is reef safe which is correct and again from the research I did before buying this was the correct species.

The one I have was told to be reef safe. It is the one were the black stripe ends at the anal fin?

if you have had it in the tank for months with no problems then i think its safe to say reef safe. if it was going to be a problem i assume it would have been apparent almost immediately! are these supposed to be schoolong fish? just wondering for future purchases.....

yes they can be schooling and they need to be introduced at same time.
The only problem is online retailers all differ and books say that they are 50/50

you mise well throw what the books says out, because, yours is obviously reef safe, now the book is right, they are 50/50, but, yours is the 50% that is safe !

Heniochus diphretues is safe. H. acuminatus (very similar) is not.

I'm sorry to disagree with you,but I must .Not that I have had any experience with that fish . my issue is the statement "if it's been in there for months then I think it's safe" I had a reef safe Hippo Tang for well over 2 years and one day out of the blue it started to eat my LPS....I think it is more likely to be a 50/50 shot throughout the life time of the fish.

really. i figured once they were in and showed no interest thats the way it would stay, hmmm. good info, so, if i have 50/50 reef safe fishes and for months maybe years they are the 50% safe ones, they can turn at any time?

also, i just purchased some of these, wondering what experience you have with feeding them and what you suggest, thanks! mike

If you are reffering to the banner fish, this is a great and active fish. I think the one i have is cool. it schools with all the tangs and has not touched any corals (soft or hard).
