Powder Blue Tang Food issue

Hi,

I currently have a smallish powder blue tang in my QT. He is happily eating all the nori (sheet algae) that I give him and has been growing and getting plumper.

The problem is that I can't even get him to notice other foods. I would like to move him to my display tank soon. I do add nori there also, but it is rapidly consumed by feeders that I fear will be much more aggressive than the small powder blue. I also don't put enough in there for him to live on that alone.

Any suggestions on getting him to eat other foods such as frozen vegetarian mixes?

Thanks,

Don

Just a suggestion on Nori in the display tank: instead of one location for feeding, split it up and put it in several places. It may reduce aggression and allow the slower feeders to get some.

I agree with the NLS pellets, most fish love them and even eat them as quickly as any of the frozen mixes or frozen Mysis.

I had a similar issue a couple years back with a small pbt. I ended up putting him in the display and a couple days later he was eating with the rest of the huge tangs I have. Almost like he learned to eat by watching them. Then about a year later he was way too aggressive and I had to give him away...

fresh clam on the half shell...
smear minced frozen brine, Mysis, etc on the back of a sheet of nori, fold over, and freeze...

I don't have a PBT but a instead a sohal. For the longest time it only ate nori, then gradually mysis and now flake and pellets too. Maybe just give it some time, the good thing is it's eating nori. :)

Well, I am happy to report that the PBT is now in the display and doing great. He boldly goes after the nori and the pellets now. Thanks for the suggestion. Those pellets are great.
