Power Head Placement

Forgive me if this is redundant or has been discussed elsewhere, but the search seems to be perpetually overloaded:

I am relatively new to SPS and LPS reefing and am need of a few pointers as to power head placement. Ideally I would like a nice "cupping" action taking place to help my caps grow upwards instead of in sheets. Should I place a power head on the back of the tank going forward? One on both sides? How many power heads total? I know I am going to need quite a bit of flow, but that doesn't help me with where to place the actual power heads. Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

Dan

Trying to move this one back to the front, I think this is a good question, I am wondering the same thing. I have one Vortech in my 180 on the end; it does produce a lot of flow but doesn’t really make it across the full 6 feet...... Would it be better to get another one and mount them on the back wall bouncing the flow of the front glass back on the 160 pds of live rock? Only have a few coral frags but want to get this flow lined up. Any experts out there on power head placement????

Thanks
Ryan

Someone has to have an answer of some sort to this... everyone has power heads in their tank... where do you put them? Why did you put them there?

rdlisby: from what I've read on vortech placement, I would put another one directly across from the original one. I'm no expert-you should check out the ecotech forum.
