Power Head pulse settings

I have a 125 which has been set-up for a year with SPS, LPS, leathers, clam, zoos, mushrooms, fish, etc. When doing this it was certainly an upgrade from what I was doing. I tried to incorporate my 17 years of saltwater and 7 years of reef keeping experience into this tank. I do seem to be rethinking some areas and with the four power heads installed for water movement and the control device for timing I was wondering about suggested sequencing. I could get more involved, but that depends on what answer/ questions I'm posed with. Thanks

Well. I bought a JBJ Ocean Pulse Wavemaker with dual timers which can run two sets of pumps at differnt time sequences. So I took the two old Maxi-jets from the old system, placed them at opposite ends and set them at 90 second intervals. Adding to the system I bought two Koralia 600's and put them at 5 min. intervals. Been playing with positions for various reasons like cyno outbreaks and some coral preferences. I've seen some pretty elaborate wave systems and was wondering about what I should be trying to accomplish. Thanks

Looks like you have quite a few pumps and controllers to fine tune the flow for your particular needs. Seems like almost too many options with mixed pump types & control options. If you have some cash to spare, two EcoTech VorTech MP40Ws would make life a lot simpler. I think Tunze also offers a nice integrated approach. These are both higher end options though, with a price tag to match.

From my readings on various forums, most AC powerheads such as the Maxi-jets don't do well being continuously switched on and off. I think the Koralias are ok that way but don't know anything about them. I assume the 600s come with the controller and are designed for the intervals you're using them with?

I had some koralias, they're not bad for the money. problem is, the propeller kicks out every time they're switched on making a loud noise. I bought a vortech mp40w. very expensive but I lve it. if u have more than one they can talk to each other wirelessly. many settings to choose from. highly recommended.

Yes, I figure the maxies will not last, but they're pretty old and have been in this current set-up for over a year. Still working. The koralias are surge pumps and do work well with longer times. They pretty much have stopped making that noise after long use. I'm familiar with vortech, tunze, etc. and was amazed at the cost. Something to consider. One thing no one has mentioned is sequence settings. I'm wondering about the decision process necessary to conclude the choice of timed water flows/ surges? I'm getting the feeling that it is pretty indidualistic and no one tank is the same. I do get a lot of irregular flow which seems to keep the tank free of dead spots. Thanks for the ideas.
