Specs:FOWLR
55Gallon All Glass (48x13x20)
Aquac C Remora
2-Maxi Jet 1200
300W Rena Cal Top Light excel heater
aquaclear 70 powerfilter (sponge/carbon only) (do I even need this?)
22lbs. fiji
35lbs. base rock
40lbs. caribsea aragonite live sand

The tank is narrow (13inch) so where should I place my 2 maxi jets? I would like them to go on the back glass which is no prob because the unit swivels and swivels to more air flow. Where and which direction should they be going? Thanks in advance.

Place your powerheads on the back wall (corners) angling toward the front center about 1/3 the way down in the tank. This opinion is greatly influenced in where and how your live rock is constructed within the tank..... Low flow spots in the tank is OK, Dead spots are not really ok. You may want to place one lower than the other to create a circular flow pattern within the tank?

The aquaclear power filter should be fine as long as you rinse the sponge out when you clean the tank and change the carbon out once in a while.

really depends on how you have your rock placed. I would put one at least close to the surface pointing at your powerfilter. This will ensure you have good surface agitation for oxygen enchange which is very important. Just put them where they are going to give the best overall movement of water. Some people like have them angled against a wall of the tank and bank the flow off it for a more random current. Ive moved mine around several times, its more of a trial and error than anything else. just make sure one way or another you have good agitation at the surface or your will deprive your water of oxygen.

Thanks for the advice so far

Clever- I have a 3rd Maxi1200 that I could use...Would that be sufficient enough until I can upgrade to 2 tunze nanostreams?

i use three maxi-jet 900s in my 55. one is at the left rear facing the right, another is in the middle top facing forward, the third one is on the right front facing the left.

Edit~ i also use a simple 20 gal HOB filter in the left rear corner just to keep the water surface agitated.

here is a pic of my latest tank.

Thanks saturn. I like the looks of your flow and it looks like i will just perform some trial and error. I will try yours and also having 2 1200's on opposite sides pointing at eachother and the third blowin by itself.
How is your sandbed doing? I have had a couple of people tell me that my 1-2" bed is too much for a 55.

top view is something like this
