Powerheads

Looking for powerhead suggestions. My tank is 48 inches long. I have the return at the right end, moving 600 gph. A Nero 3 is at the left end, can move up to 2000 gph. The Nero 3 kind of blasts the first 24 inches or so and then tapers off. So, am wondering about adding a second powerhead but am thinking a different type just to provide a different action. I want an economical one and do not need app control. I am having a problem with film algae and wonder if better water movement will help limit its growth.

If you're on a budget, check out the Jebao brand. I've used them for years. They are relatively inexpensive and have been very reliable.

I run strictly Jebao on my tank. For wave makers they have a variety from gyre, to Nero knock offs, to basic wavemakers. Some say they don’t last but I’ve ran them for years. Plus they’re cheap enough to replace easily.

Beyond them, I’ve ran cheap Amazon imports (meh), koralias (not impressed but reliable) and Maxi Jets (with the wave maker mod - well it was a mod back then, I think they come with it now?) and was impressed. Also had a Neptune Wav which was great but it got a wiring issue. The thing with all of the above (except the Neptune and Jebao) is they were all AC pumps and not adjustable speed wise.

Not an “economy” pump but there’s also the highly reccomended Tunze pumps. However I have no direct experience with them.

Yes, the Maxijets come with the wavemaker mod. The only problem is if you put the on a wavemaker controller, 50% of the time the prop/impeller spins the wrong way.

The most recent Jebao wavemakers I have are as good as any other brand. I dont think they are that cheap anymore though. I did Tunze. Won't again.
I am using 2 in a 4 foot 75 and they produce excellent flow. These are the flat ones that can be slightly angled. They can be synced to each other ands the control is simple. Very easy to clean, comes apart into 3 parts. The mount magnets stay on the tank. I like them a lot.

Mine are SLW-30s. I got them on Chewy. They appear to out of stock there now.

Those are the ones I use mostly. I also have one of the gyres and their return pump
