I have kind of an odd request, but I'm hoping someone will be willing to help me out with"¦ I have been battling flukes in one of my qt tanks housing 6 Butterflies and a Yellow Belly Regal. And after multiple rounds of PraziPro; a couple of rounds in succession, a tank transfer with 2 rounds 5 days in between at an elevated dosage, and yet it appears they have reared their ugly heads again.
I did a fresh water dip on two of them a couple of days after the last round because I noticed some flashing still from the two, but nothing appeared to come off from either of them. I chalked it up as there gills being irritated, but thinking perhaps I might be dealing with a bacterial issue, and the fact that it would be a fairly mild treatment on them I went ahead and ran them through a round of Furan 2.
And low and behold, two days after the Furan 2 treatment I discovered tonight that my Raccoon, and Burgess both have a couple of flukes moving about one of their eyes, and although I haven't seen any flashing, my Blue Stripe is yawning, so I'm certain the flashing and rubbing will begin soon.
So I just disinfected my filter, power head, heater, and completed another tank transfer. The next step was to haul out my bottle of PraziPro and dose the tank for another round, and for some unknown reason I took a big old sniff of my PraziPro as I was loading up my medicine dropper.
Call me crazy, but it seemed to me the last time I sniffed a bottle of PraziPro (and no I do not make a habit of going around sniffing aquatic medications) it had kind of a distinct odor to it, kind of a citrus like odor, and the bottle I have been using to treat these fish is odorless"¦ I thought perhaps I have lost my mind, so to confirm what I recalled last time I had sniffed a bottle of Prazi, I dug out an old bottle that was mostly empty and gave it a sniff, and sure enough, it stunk just like I had recalled.
Perhaps they have changed the formula, and therefore it no longer has a distinct odor. I recalled reading a thread recently where there was mention of Prazi not being effective on certain strains of flukes and perhaps that is the case here; but I also recall a post where Hikara support had suggested that the bottle of Prazi went through a freeze, thus rendering it ineffective. It has been a cold winter, and the fact that this bottle was purchased approximately 6 weeks ago it might just be plausible. Not that freezing it would necessarily change its distinct odor, this I don't know.
But what I do know is that four rounds of PraziPro should have knocked it out of them, normally two rounds have been sufficient in the past"¦
I have a bottle of Formalin as a last resort, but would rather use Prazi if it could get the job done"¦ So who is willing to take a sniff of their PraziPro for me? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? :spin3:

It should also be a pale pink.
