Prazipro question

So the bottle says, one treatment lasting 5-7 days should be sufficient.

I have a 90 gallon tank and dosed appropriately. So my question is this.

Do I dose daily for 5-7 days or do I just dose once and keep the skimmer off for 5-7 days and that should be good?

I know to do the water change and I will do a couple 10 gallon water changes after the treatment, I just want clarification. It's hard to tell if I should dose daily for 5-7 days or once and let it sit for 5-7 days.

Thanks in advance!

You dose once, wait 5-7 days, do a 20-25% WC and then dose again. Again, just once... not daily.

The reason for the second dose is to get any Flukes that recently hatched from any eggs left behind (Prazi kills worms, but not their eggs).

The reason for the 20-25% WC is to remove some of the toxins the Flukes released as they were dying. (Or some say to remove some of the dead Flukes themselves.) Before treating again and possibly encountering more Flukes/toxins.

Do not use your skimmer, UV or run carbon while using Prazi. Any of those will remove Prazi or render it ineffective.

Thanks that is exactly what I needed to know. I am assuming it is ok to keep the skimmer off and just use the sock filter for these 5-7 days?

Thanks again, it definitely helped, would hate to do something wrong :)

Yes, sock filter is fine. Just no mechanical/media filtration which might remove the Prazi. 72 hrs after you've done the second dose... feel free to run the skimmer, run some fresh carbon, do more WCs, etc. In fact, it's actually a good idea to do all of that afterwards to get all of the leftover meds/Flukes out of your tank.

After the 20-25% water change do you just dose the amount that was removed from the water change or do you do the full dose again?

Also, does the skimmer only remove the percentage of Prazi Pro in relation to the waste in the skimmer cup or does it remove a higher percentage? Could I just empty the skimmer cup and add the appropriate amount of new water treated with Prazi to replace the skimmate?

Thanks!

You do the full dose again. Prazi only remains active in the water for around 72 hrs.

As far as the skimmer is concerned, you can just remove the skimmer collection cup, but allow the skimmer pump to continue, if you are worried about lack of O2 in your tank.

The 2nd dose should be full strength. The PP breaks down in the 7 day time period.

There is no way of knowing how much PP the skimmer has removed. As a skimmer shouldn't be running during the treatment periods, I don't understand the skimmer question.

Please start your own thread with these questions. You'll get more help and the OP will get the help he needs. Its very confusing when a thread is getting questions from more than one hobbyist.

However, if you do a water change on day 3 (which you can btw) you just add the amount you taken away.

Example on day 3 you notice a ammonia spike and decided a water change was needed. Based on if you have a 40 gallon qt. You do a 10% water change which is 4 gallons. You would then add 1/4 tsp of PraziPro.

To increase O2 you can use an airstone in the tank.

By day 3, pretty much all of the praziquantel will have dissipated.
