pregnant Clown Fish

I just noticed on Sunday, that my female clown has a belly, what is the average time frame before she will lay eggs?

Although females get a slight bulge towards the very end, typically a "belly" is the sign of internal worms/parasites. Mine are on a 10ish day cycle. Day 1 lay, day 7 hatch, rest 3 day, restart. If she maintains the "belly" for more than 5-7 days, I would recommend a quarantine and de-wormer and parasite removal.

How long have you had her?

Thanks for the response, I've had them for about six/eight months. I have only added snails and an anemone since then could they be the cause of parasites, if not how else are they introduced?

If you haven't seen any bulge up to this point, it's likely not internal parasites then. Just keep an eye and hopefully she starts laying soon. The first batch of eggs will be pretty unimpressive, but if she starts her cycle of laying/hatching, the numbers of eggs and successful hatches will grow quickly.

I'd love to raise some from both my orange and black pairs, but honestly haven't had the time yet.

My female gets Huge just before she lays her eggs. But yeah they will get an a cycle and you are not long between batches.

Was this the first time this happened for you?
