I have been trying to stock my DT, getting new fish from an online retailer. The last three fish I received developed ich rather quickly, and I then instituted hypo. This led to about a 3 day delay in treating ich that must have been present when I first received the fish. Starting cupramine takes about 2 days to get a therapeutic level. I began to wonder today if it would make sense therefore to have a therapeutic level of cupramine in my QT when I first introduce my new fish so as to get them starting full treatment right away. I figure that I could do a water change or use carbon if by some chance the fish does not display ich in the first few days. Does this approach make sense for me? (I cannot get fish from a LFS to eyeball them before I buy them). It is similar to what we do in medicine when we pretreat with antibiotics before dental work or surgery. Thanks.
