Prices for RPEs, PPEs and other BLINGTACULAR zoas

Patwa

if anyone asks, it's $10
what's the going rate for these zoa and palys? we don't have them up here in Canada, but i figure if they ever show up they'll be VERY pricey..

what do you guys and gals pay on average for these zoas?

Zach.

$5-15 dollars per polyp......I payed $75 for a frag colony in my gallery. I didn't mind paying it really as these have never shown up locally before not to mention the other crazy palys that are inter mixed wiith them.

LOL....I wish I could find some PPEs for that I was talking more like the general PE types that you can find around on some sites...I think every body knows that PPEs will cost you a bit.....If they don't know it at first they soon find out.

OK so we're clear that PPEs are pretty high in price.....but how high?? like $50-60US per polyp?? or $50-$60US for a frag with like 3 or 4 polyps??

I have nothing on PPEs....i didn't even know what the heck they were until about 2 months ago LOL!

Zach.

I would say 30 - 50 per polyp is pretty "fair"... it depends on how nice the person is :)

You also have to calculate overnight shipping (20-45 dollars)

So... 3 PPE polyps @ 40 =120
Shipping @ 30
Total for 3 PPEs = 150

That reasonable, but not great... I'm sure you can find cheaper ways of doing this. And most people that sell PPEs also have other really cool zoas they could you sell you as well, so the shipping becomes spread across all of the really cool zoas.

I got some RPEs for 6$ a polyp other day. I have yet to find decent price on PPE (ok so the only place I ever see them is on Ebay)

anyone paying 30-60$ per polyp of any zzoo/PE is crazy IMO (or you have too much money) ... look around long enough and you will find someone willing to trade... get in with a local club.. thats how I got mine!

We use cool words like "blingtacular" in Canada, but you guys have the pricey zoos. I guess we're even.
I concur with the above sentiment .. 50 to 60 for a polyp of anything is insane. Something that gets me about this hobby is that a lot of rare things aren't even nicer looking than a lot of common things and they cost 10 times more. It's ridiculous. People pay it though.

Patwa, if you're thinking of bringing some rarer zoos up here I'm in as long as they are damn nice! We can go splits on polyps or whatever you like but I'm not in it for commercial reasons .. seems everyone is these days.

I think most people who spend that kind of money see it as an investment. They know how fast zoos grow, and how fast they can make their money back. It's crazy to look at it that way, but some people like myself finance all their tank and livestock upgrades through growing and selling/trading frags.

you sound like one of the people who take part in the crazes/fads, and support the practice of it based on the money aspect of the hobby.

i bet you used to have a tank full of rics, now full of acans and micros. ;) not dissing you, more power to you i guess.

Wow surfnvb7...that sounds really original...where did you get that from an Anthony Calfo column...! Actually I sound like someone who stocks my tanks with things I lilke to look at...I do have acans and Micros...although I am babysitting most of them for a freind...no Rics though! SO I guess anyone who stocks their tanks with Acans and Micros and Rics is "one of those people"...so tell me what I should put in my tank so I won't be "one of those people"! Please tell me what is safe to have in my tank! As for the selling aspect. If you knew me and my situation, maybe you would better understand me and not try and classify me as "one of those people". If I like something and it cost "X" amount of dollars that's what I spend...and if I am selling something and it goes for "X" amount of dollars that's what I sell it for. I don't complain over what the market is bringing for certain things! And I don't try and sterotype people without knowing anything about them!

They aren't in a bunch...trust me I never lose any sleep over what people say on here! When you love this hobby and you don't have bottomless pockets...you find creative ways to fuel your reef addiction...trading and selling what you grow!

you sound like you have a very high opinion of yourself.....don't stereotype people based on your own beliefs and understanding....there's always more to the picture than meets the eye.

and yeah, you are "dissing" people with that statement of yours.......no matter how many times you tell yourself you aren't.

how about this: people buy what they like, or what makes them feel good.....if they can make a few bucks after the fact, then more power to them....just becasue you can't afford those pricey zoas (or even source them out in your area), does not mean you can (negatively) judge people who can.

just my $0.02
