Printing Pictures

Would it be more economical to print my photo's at home or at Wal-Mart at
$.09 each and if at home which photo printer would be the most cost effective? Thank's.

There are a lot of good photo printers out there for fairly reasonable prices, but personally, I just have all of my photos professionally done. You don't save much printing photos yourself, and when I counted the photos and time I've wasted calibrating my printer just right, I decided it just wasn't worth it. Other people will have other opinions. One bonus to doing it yourself is you get the photos right away, and if they don't turn out quite the way you wanted, you can just tweak the settings and print them again.

That said, Wal-Mart certainly wouldn't be my first choice (pretty much my last choice for that matter). I send my personal stuff out to Adorama for printing. For commissioned prints, I use WHCC just because they're more oriented towards businesses, so it makes it easier on my customer.

I'll defer the printer suggestions to someone else, as I haven't bought a photo printer in years. . .

I have to agree with IslandCrow... Though I do print myself and I enjoy it, i cannot see how i'm saving any money.

For family snaps, b-day parties, etc... I would recommend walmart. They'll print it 100x to get it to the way you want... it's fast, it's cheap... and really it works... to me it's the same as dropping off my 35mm roll at blacks or whatever after shooting the birthday party..

For prints, "art" that I want to hang on the wall, or give to someone etc... I use my own printer. I have the Epson R2400 which uses the K3 inks. They are archival inks and when used with the quality paper (epson 4star or 5 star papers) they do a great job IMO, though with the playing, reprinting etc, it isn't cheap. But it is fun. Then if you to add a calibration kit for your screen and printer to make profiles etc... you're really getting pricey... but it's a hobby and supposed to be fun.

ps; I'm hoping santa brings me a new calibration kit... spyderpro3 would be nice... :)

Other than direct sales on my site, I print all my own work. For me, it's more about the process than economics. I like owning the image from capture to output.

I've used Mpix, Bayphoto and a few others. Costco, actually does a really good job from what I understand. I've got a friend that uses them for everything.
