Probably dumb question

What is the difference between curing dry rock before starting a new tank and just adding it all and cycling it????

All the nasty crap water will be in your tank instead of a bucket. You will be sorry if you do it that way.

Always seeing posts of folks who shortcut for instant gratification and then come back asking how to fix their problems.

It depends on the type of dry rock. Some dry rock seems to leach more crap then others. If it's one of the cleaner dry rocks then putting in the tank right away is fine of course it's better to do it outside of the tank if you can. Your going to want to clean the rock before you put it in the tank if you do add it right away.

I know I'm an outcast on this, but I always just throw wet rock in my tank and cycle it. In my 10 gallon I have a small patch of bubble algae that is being stubborn, but my tuxedo urchin and turbo snail have made light work of the bryopsis and hair algae I had in their as well. Luckily I have never had anything worse than that and it was the first time I've used pukani which I will not use again.
