problem with canister filter

Hi, just bought an Ocean Clear 325 Canister filter so we can set up our new tank, problem is it keeps leaking out the top. Seems like the gasket is too thick to let the lid go all the way down. Anyone out there have experience with this type of filter?? Thanks

Do you have the rubber o-ring seated properly? If it is the clear cover should fit very tightly.

Yes, I would say your seal is not seated correctly.

Do you put the o-ring into the clear lid or does it go into the groove around the filter body? The manual just says its located at the top of the filter body. There are no diagrams.

Yeah, don't know why it went through twice. Anyway may have found the problem. We have been putting in it the groove...obvious right, we even called an aquarium store and asked about it. Seems however with a bit of research on line last night, there are actually 2 o-rings for that model and they are different sizes, just slightly though. And it changes where you put it. Would have been nice it the manual would specify since I think most people would think the groove is the obvious place. Ours goes into the lid. Thanks all.
