Problem with Sedra 5000 pump

I don't have the ceramic piece that fits over the impeller shaft. So every time I unplug the pump, it takes about an hour of messing with it to make it work again. I am hoping that once I order the piece it will solve the problem. But in the mean time, I'm not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions?

Other than ordering a new one I am unsure what to suggest. If it isn't working you might want to unplug it just to be on the safe side so more things don't break. I guess you could also try a small rubber washer just till you get the new part, but don't leave it in there long term or it will degrade.

Thanks. Ya that is what I'm doing so far. I have a piece of airline tubing that fits over the shaft. I just can't tell whether wedging it down firmly is causing too much pressure to start it, or whether it just isn't gripping enough and causing it to slide off the shaft...
