Problems with leather

I've had this leather for about a year and it has grown, slowly but steadily.

Every once in a while, it closes up for a day or so. This time, it's been closed for about a week and is starting to get a brown film on it that can't be blown off with a turkey baster. (sorry, no pics right now)

I know that leathers sometimes close up for a period of time to shed, but at what point should I be concerned - or should I be concerned already?

Thanks.

If your water paramters are good...and nothing has changed I would not worry about it.

All params have been steady at

Salinity 35ppt
pH 8.2
dKh 9
Calc 460
Temp 79
Ammonia, Nitrates, 0

I did start dosing vinegar mixed in with my Kalk in the Top-off (10ml per gal of top-off) about 2 months ago, but the leather only started closing up last week.

Guess I'll sit back and watch.

Thanks

There's nothing near the leather that could be bothering it. I suspect that it's just going through a phase.

Thanks again for the help.
