Problems with my clam

Is the clam fully extended and look healthy from above??? Or only partially??? I lost one of the crocea's I got from Prem Aquatics about a month ago, but it never looked too healthy... I just really liked the coloring, so took the chance... That looks like an Astrea shell to me too... But its crazy how deeply embedded it is into the clam... Or maybe thats just the pic... But reguadless, one of my clam's foot is attatched to an old Margarita shell, but you can see the "threads" of the foot, and it hangs down a good 1/2" or so... I know that the snail preds of clams are a lot smaller than that... Think of a grain or rice... They come out at night though, and you scrub them off with a toothbrush... Least that's what I've read... You don't have any fish in there that could be picking at it??? I had a lemonpeel that loved my blue maxima... Little *****... They had to be separated... I don't think you "dip" clams though... How deep is your sandbed??? Hopefully someone in the clam forum can help more...

Yea... he looks ok but aggrevated... spread wider than normal and it can't close completely.

This seems to obviously be due to the snail, but fear the methods I would use removing it might be more harm than good.

Yea whelk whelck welch however you spell it snails are not good for clams but they look similar to a nessarius.

BTW my sand bed is only about an inch at most. I consider it BB in a way since it is so shallow and I siphon it biweekly.

He likely grabbed that shell to anchor onto, and when trying to pull down, inadvertently pulled it into the shell hinge. Give him a FW dip for about 10 minutes, I used to do that to my clams regulary when they had mystery ailments and it works well.

adjust the ph and you can dip as long as 30 min i dip mine as well try to remove the shell by using a new razor blade and cut the threads...dont cut the foot

I never adjusted the pH. Can you tell if the shell is preventing the shell from closing? If so, remove it.

The clam appears to be having the same problems and I can see the tissue inside the clam starting to turn brown. I was going to try a freshwater dip but caught my cleaner shrimp picking down inside the clam through the siphon mouth and it wasn't closing.

I fear the end is near and was wondering if anyone knew the best way to euthanize a clam. I think its just suffering from this point on, plus the chance of hurting other tank mates.

We used to have steamers up in CT during the summer... Good with a bit of lemon, a splash of tobasco, and a cold Corona... :)
