Oh, and just yesterday it started production of gold pooping:)...you'd only understand this if you read the previous article about my drive to St. Pete.

I followed your other post, but how is he pooping gold already?

Does he have the cool little neon green mustache like I saw on the big momma one at SITC?

Also this is a freak thought and I don't know if it can be done but can they be crossbred with other clowns? now THAT would be a weird experiment.

I am really, really surprised there isn't like a clownfish breeders association (that i know of anyhow!) that is really picky about clowns like they would dogs- like if their ears perk up they're not allowed to show. You could come up with some really hysterical arbitrary rules for that one ;p

No, Christie, that comes with age...yes, they can be crossbred, but I won't do that with this guy. I might have a line on another in a week or so, so I will hold off to hear the news on that. If nothing else, I'll put him with a female sebae for a while until I can find a suitable match. Breeders can be a part of MAC(I believe that's the name of it) and get certified, but unless the breeder, the wholesaler, and the retailer are MAC certified, neither is the fish. And cert is expensive. You can have MAC bred fish, but they won't be MAC certified once they leave the breeder unless they follow the chain of command. MAC also has this for wild caught. All we really need is higher standards from the breeders, distributors, retailers and consumers alike. Noone will take action until the consumers demand it. Why put out more effort if noone cares? People need to start making a genuine assertion of proper care to their LFS...make them mention it to their wholesalers...it will get back to the distrubtors if problems get bad enough. Rule #1: don't buy it if it looks like garbage...we know you want a fish and have been waiting for a long time to have it come in. If it's diseased or not eating, chances are you'll be waiting for it to come in again; the real question is will you spend that $100 now and again when a healthy one comes in, or will you just wait and get a good one.

Consumers just need to be smarter, take their time, and truely make an effort to let a store know if something's wrong. Most of the time, someone there will care and take action. Sometimes we just walk out instead of taking an extra minute to make your next visit(if you go back) a much more pleasurable and worthwhile experience.
