Profilux Control Problem?

I'm posting here in the hopes that someone might have an idea what could be going on.
I know that GHL is closed for the holidays.

My setup is as follows: Profilux plus II, with GHL serial cable plus USB adapter. Firmware 3.03 and Control 3.03. Everything works perfectly.
No problems connecting from pc to Profilux.

Today I wanted to update control and firmware to use the new email notification.
Downloaded Control 3.07 and tried connecting as usual.
Control not responding. Have to kill it with the task manager.
Settings should be fine. Correct port, baud rate and address selected.

Then I tried the previous Control versions, but have the same problem with each and every one of them.
Up to Profilux control 3.03, I've had no connection problems whatsoever.

Thinking it might be my laptop, I tried using the desktop. No luck with that either. Same problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?
Did something substantial change between version 3.03 and 3.04?
The only difference I saw on the "front page" is an option to select serial cable/usb connection or TCP/IP.

Would greatly appreciate any help, since otherwise I'll be stuck with the options firmware 3.03 offers.

Problem solved!
It was the USB adapter.
I found a lonely serial port on the desktop computer (didn't think it had one, but am glad I checked).
Connection without the USB adaper is lightning fast.

Something in the Control program must have changed after version 3.03 that made it impossible for my USB adapter that previously worked fine to be used for the connection.
