Prognathodes in a reef tank

Anyone keeping P. aculeatus in a reef tank (or any other Prognathodes for that matter)? If so, how are they doing? From what little I can find on them it sounds like they do pretty well in an SPS dominant reef but may pick at LPS.

See any potential problems? Any words of advice with this species in the tank?

I would add one, or multiples. This is one of my favorite Genus.

I have personally kept P. aya and P. brasillensis. But only the aya with corals. He never bothered a thing. Just be certain to deworm and treat for flukes and other parasites as they often come infested with them, but otherwise great fish IMO>

What a stunner...absolutely beautiful understated fish.

It's just been a few days but the fish acts like it's never eaten food out of the water column before. All day it picks at the rocks while ignoring passing mysis, rods, cyclop-eez, pellet and whatever else I feed the tank. Any ideas on how to get this guy to recognize food in the water column? It was a DD fish and supposedly eating enriched brine and mysis but it appears to me he has no clue that the passing food, is food.

Congrats on the new acquisition!

I was able to get my fish eating small mysis and brine, but it did take a few days. Both of mine were from the DD as well.

Try smearing mysis into dead coral skeletons and placing them in the tank.

A friend had one, and IIRC it never ate frozen foods Only live blackworms. To be honest, with what I've read on RC and heard from my friend, I'd say this is a very difficult species to get eating prepared foods. It surprises me a bit.

Thanks guys - I'll keep slugging it out and see if I can get it on frozen. Going to try the smeared mysis on a skeleton and throw in some clams on the half shell and see if that will get it interested. Going to call up DD too and see what they have to say as well.
