Propagation plugs: how?

I know some of you ausing propagation plugs. How do you make them?

Also, those of you using floral plugs ( the green rubber tipped ones ): do you need to change the water inside them? Sounds like a silly question, but never the less one I don't have the answer for :)

Thanks

Thanks all for the info - again, most usable!

Michael, where do you get affordable rubble?

Ken, I will most likely order some of the plugs in addition to the rubble which Michael will sugest,

thank you

Get cheap dry base rock- smash it up, and throw in in a basket in your sump (or you can leave dry- but I like them good and conditioned). Stores usually don't sell it cheap- but I did see some place online that did. Maybe Dr. Mac? pacificeastaquaculture.com

I know both HPC and Swamp Bottom have cured rubble for cheap. Some of it still has polyps, sponges, etc. I want to say on the order of $2-$4/lb. But when you're talking rubble, even a pound goes a long way.

Thank you all again!

I will try all three additional options - haven't been at any LFS's in a while, need to check them out anyway!

Michael - wher do you get your base rock? LAst I received was from Reefer Rocks - wasn't too bad, can't remember the price. Did cause a diatome bloom for a little while, is that to be expected?

Thanks

What about the reef bones that Union has? I think it's $1.99/lb. ReefD am I right?
Yeah...got some of that...dirt cheap and light weight so a little $ went a long way.

After being in the tank a few months, well conditioned and can't even tell it started out bone-white.

As mike and others said, buy it, smash it, throw it in the sump/fuge and use as necessary. Always best if you could have it curing for a few months first...just looks better. But if you're just out to make frags for sale/trade, what does it matter.

I don't have room in my tank for rubble and also it gets constantly knocked over, so I'm using the boston aqua farms plugs.

Regarding the floral plugs, I never used them but I'm sure you don't need to change any water in them.

I get mine from cknowlto here on reef central nice plugs reasonable price you can buy cured & uncured He also has some cool frag racks...
