Proper pump/flow...

Hey everyone...

I'm setting up a sump for my hex tank... (35g). I have a 10g all-glass tank that I am going to use that was given to me. My question is this: If the overflow that I am going to buy (hanging) flows 300 gph, how strong a pump should I get? I am figuring about a 4' head on the return line, so I will have to get a pump that's about 500-600 gph, right? Is there an exact science to this? I don't want to burn out my pump or cause a big spill on the ground from over-siphoning.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

600gphish sounds good.
with the use of ball valves and a T junction you can throttle the flow back into the tank if it's too much
