propgating Xenia's

Hi new guy to this forum.

quick question. I recently bought one small xenia stalk frag for about 5 bucks for my tank and less then a month later it has split into 5 seperate stalks ( stalks are twice the size when i originally bought the one stalk ).

My question is how or what is the proper way to propagate the stalks. I want to move some of them to other rocks and maybe my refugium.

If you are patient you can place a small rock as close as possible to the xenia so it will incrush on to it. Or you can simply just cut a stalk from a foot and attached that to another piece of rock using a rubber band or toothpick or both.

If you're careful, you can physically remove a stalk from a rock with constant, gentle pulling. You'll want to hold it as close to the base as possible in order to keep from tearing it apart. I've done this a couple of times when it has attached to rocks that I do not want it on. Then, you can place it where you like -- with rubberbands, pinned between rocks, etc.

I just cut the heads right off the stalk. Both regrow.

I just take a small piece of live rock and set it really close to it. and walla in a couple of days you have two frags

I frag lottttts of xenia. cut the head off leave some base still attached to the base rock(will grow a new head) take the head and run a tooth pick through it and stick it onto another rock... in two days it will attach itself and then remove the toothpick...That easy...I promise!
