Protein Skimmer Recommendation

I am getting ready to setup my 40gal cube and I have still not purchased a Skimmer yet. Does anybody have any good recommendations for one that is not really expensive? Thanks!

Depends what you want to spend and what is in the tank.

Bubble Magus NAC6 at $140.

Vertex IN-100 at $199

MSX/Reef Octopus 160 at $269

and so on.

I plan on keeping mainly SPS and LPS. I am trying not to spend more than 150. I appreciate the help

I'd look for someone upgrading to a larger skimmer and buy used for that size of a tank , you probably will be able to get a better skimmer for your price range.

Vertex 80 should be fine on a 40 gal tank

I have the redsea HOB skimmer on my 56 gallon and it works great and reasonably priced.

The vertex looks cool but for the price range i am trying to stay in I think Bryan is right, I am just going to have to wait and find someone who is upgrading. Thanks

the bubble magus NAC6 @ $138 is a better skimmer with more power and better design features than the vertex in- 100.

NAC6 has a mesh wheel impeller, comes with a spare,
gets 500lph air injection (in-80/in-100 get 420lph),
has a wider neck than the vertex, has the pump in the body for smaller footprint, and has a better pump than the resun on the vertex, so all in all a better skimmer for less money.

I'd go with the nac6 without doubt. I would run it with the pinwheel. Would work just fine.

a used Euro Reef CS5/3 or RS 80 is a great skimmer for sub 130 price

Was looking at the Vertex 80 this morning... $128 at saltysupply.com (no experience with the skimmer or the business, just saying...)
