I just bought a used 180 gallon tank and I'm looking for suggestions on a protein skimmer as the one I currently use for my 110 will not be large enough.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I run a sro3000int on my 210gal (total volume of about 250gal) and it works great.

I supposedly have an insane bioload to boot...

Dussumieri 6"
Yellow foxface 6"
Powder blue 5"
Desjardini 5"
Blonde naso 5"
Clown tang 5"
Hippo 4"
Kole 3"
Three yellow tangs 3" each
Red coris wrasse 7"
Melanarus 6"
Flame angel 3"
Two Perculas 2.5" each
Matted filefish 2.5"
Longnosed hawk 3.5"
Watchman goby 3"
Emperor angel 3.5"
Starry blenny 4"

That's 2 votes for the sro3000int. I'll definitely have to check it out.
And that definitely sounds like quite the bioload. Very nice choices though.

nice score, I wanted to buy it!!! you beat me to it

Thanks. It's going to be a while before I have it set up. I need to get a stand and canopy. There have been several others I've had an interest in and someone beat me eeach of them. I guess it was my time.

skimmer

I have 187 gal, 240 total volume. Got SRO 3000, its prob. the best thing going cost/benefit wise. It was too much skimmer for my tank on a medium to light bio load, but its getting better as i go towards med. heavy bio load. (also, if you carbon dose it helps deal with being slightly oversized/underloaded) There's a SRO 2000 on the for sale forum with neck cleaner for 350, I'd consider getting that and upgrading if/when needed. Neck cleaner makes a pretty big difference, but you still have to clean it every 3 or 4 weeks. hope this helps

Now I'm curious about the sro3000. I've always been a Reef Octopus fan, and love my NWB200 that I have on my 155. I went with the standard due to my stand height. I admit to not realizing it was a Reef Octopus until I looked it up. Yet, I can be not the sharpest knife in the drawer sometimes...

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the 2000 also. I wish I was ready right now but I'm probably going to work on a stand and canopy first. I'm not opposed to buying the 2000 and upgrading when/if needed so thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely be checking out the for sale forum when I'm ready.

I'm running a vertex in-280 and it imediately started pulling thick skimmate however it's rather large

I've had problems finding a skimmer that fits in my current set-up so I'm hoping I won't have that issue with my new one. When you say rather large are you referring to the height, width or both?

nick, the guy you got the vertex from has a reef octopus extreme 200 for sale. send him the contact to check it out.
