protien skimming and water level

I just bought a custom made protien skimmer from a guy at my local reef shop and he tells me it is a knock off of a euro reef RC250 it works amazaing untill my water level drops from evaporation. and i have to turn it up or add water and when i add water it makes way to much and floods my cup.

Is their a simple way to slove this problem or did i get ripped off?

also i was considering adding a auto top off system whould this help at all?

My top two choices for auto top off are below. Really need to get one of these or your salinity will fluxuate. Very easy to install.

1. Tunze Osmolator (the best, imo)
2. www.autotopoff.com (for the budget minded)

If it were an ER RC250 knock-off, it would be unaffected by water level. Maybe more like an RS250? As above auto topoff would solve the problem.

Just wondering, but in your top off water are you adding conditioners of any type?

i put my skimmer in a smaller rubbermaid tub in my sump
the water level won't change then
