Pseudocorynactis - safe or kill it with fire?

Finding a couple of these guys opening up as my tank settles in. Came on the Live Rock I assume.

Also called orange-ball anemone I think. But it's actually a corallimorph. It's about the size of a dime when spread out with clear tentacles, and white tips. The mouth is orangish, but it's dark so hard to tell. They seem nocturnal, during the day they rarely come out.

Should I prepare to deal with them or are the reef safe?

Well that can't be much heh. Maybe pods or brine shrimp. The tentaclees are like 1cm long at most. One of my hermits trapses right over him.

They are probably just to small at this point to really do anything. A quick google search came up that they will eventually be able to take out fishes and such.

Hmm, can you link that please? I need to be sure before I go eradicating harmless pretty lifeforms!

Most likely what you have is absolutely fine.

I've had a few in my tank since the beginning (6 or 7 years) and never had problem with them. Never harmed anything, never got bigger than 1-2 cm and never spread all over my tank like other pest anemones.

I'd keep 'em as part of the diversity in your tank.

I have had these in a past tank that i had. Never had any trouble with them. Some say they are as bad as aptasia but i disagree. They are nice to look at and dont seem to spread much or at all. But it is always good to keep a close watch

They're fine. I've worked with two Corynactis/ Psuedocorynactis experts, and they had never seen or heard of them eating fish. Nor have I ever heard of any hobbyists losing fish to them. The only claim I've ever found of them eating anything desirable is that article.

Will a peppermint shrimp eat these?

I want to get one because they are small, cute and will hopefully prevent any apstasia from taking hold.

:) I've had them in my tank for several years, came in on some rock. They've spread quite a bit (when the lights first come on in the morning they're spread out everywhere) but have never seemed to bother anything and never gotten any larger than dime size (for a large one, most are smaller).

we have gotten several of these come in on LR rubble

we put them all together in the display fuge
usually only come out at nite but we feed them mysis occasionally.

they are a popular item for underwater photographers...
might try a google image search for all sorts of great images.

regards
