pulsating xenia

Hi all something is happening to my xenia and I cannot figure it out. All of a sudden several stalks started to erode near the base and die. Others that were close by moved away from the location were the damaged ones are. I cannot detect anything picking at them. They have been in the tank for about 8 months now. Any clues as what to do or what is wrong?? Thanks Rod

They can be funny sometimes. Fine one day and all of a sudden they are not. I cant figure them out either. Could be a sudden change in your parameters. Is there anything blocking the light from them.

I can't keep xenia in my current tank, but I know from the past that something as simple as a little chunk of salt creep can burn into softies pretty quick.
