Pump alignment

Since I only have one Vortech for the moment, I decided to move it from the side of the tank to the middle of the back. With my two Maxijet mods on the sides, I'm really getting nice flow for my 75 gallon and I am quite pleased. However, I do have one problem:

The back of the tank is blue acrylic and not see through. This, I found to be a problem in trying to align the Vortech dry and wet ends. Does anyone have any suggestions? After several tries, I'm not sure I can really do it right.

I have the same problem with mine a peice of acrylic that's siliconed to the inside of my glass. Here's what I do:

You have to stand over the tank so you're looking down and can see both sides.

Put your dry side gasket where you want it and Align the dry side motor on the gasket using your fingertips.

Put the wetside close to where it should be grippng it loosely. The magnets will pull together. Plug in the driver and then finish aligning up and down and the back and forth. You can do this by the sound.

I'm with you till the last part. I'm a little leery of doing any adjusting while the pump is running since the cover on the wet side came off on me once while I was doing that and I'm lucky to still have my fingers, :)

Thanks for answering. At what speed are you running yours when you do the adjusting? I can't run mine full blast the way the instructions say.

Shouldn't matter. Turn it down to the lowest setting, adjust it, then turn it up.

I also forgot to add you need to hold the dry side in place while your adjusting it.

I've never had the shroud fall off. I'd make sure it's on tight first, it's just a little bit of a turn to set the pins in place.

Good luck.

I got it!! Thanks for the support, mrcrab. The shroud didn't fall off like the last time I tried. It's quiet as a mouse, :)
