Pump moving a lot of sand

So I have an eheim compact 5000 pump rated at 1360 gallons/h on my reefer 450 setup. I'm noticing that due to my return nozzle pointed centre that all my sand is being pushed to the sides and have less than a cm of sand in the middle. It's created a crateor.

I'm not running the pump at full speed maybe about 3/4. Looks like I'll have to turn down the pump more but how do I know if I'm pumping the recommended 1060 gallons/h that is recommended. Is there a way to calculate this?

Can you add lockline to the output and point it up toward the surface more?

As for calculating, your just gonna have to guess how much to turn it down from the size pump, head pressure, ect.

agree with pointing it up more or try a more flared nozzle.
