Pump question please??

I was looking at the GenX submersibiles and the GenX/Mak4. I would like to use the GenX/Mak4 as a return pump from my sump. But I want to put a tee and then a ball valve inline to control the flow to the refugium. I also want to put a ball valve inline before the SCWD, to control the flow into the tank. Can the GenX/Mak4 handle this sort of back-pressure?? What about the GenX submersible GX4100??

Hi,

I wouldn't recommend this with the submersible models, but the Exteral GENX/Mak4 is a workhorse, it can handle the pressure easily. So that would be a great choice for that type of setup.

thanks

Excellent!! Thanks for the quick response!!

Edit: Are the Iwakis just that much better than the Gen X line??

Hi,

The Iwaki's are very good pumps, little better then GENX, made in Japan and maybe just a little bit more quiet then GENX. The equivalent would be Iwaki55. I don't think it's worth the extra money for Iwaki compared to GENX though.

I do have another option which we feel is even better then Iwaki, called Pan World. They are made in Japan as well by the ex-engineer of iwaki. They run cooler, more quiet and cost less money then iwaki, more then GENX. I'm using one on my office tank and it's excellent. You might of seen these advertised as Blueline HD pumps, same thing.

This model you would need would be
PAN WORLD MODEL 150PS EXTERNAL PUMP (md55R equivalent) $219.90, even has 2 year warranty.

So my recommendation would be GENX or the pan world.

Again, thank you!! I will consider my alternatives. Odd question: Can I mount either one of the above mentioned pumps vertically?? Say I was going to bolt them to the side of my stand for a closed loop or something like that. Do they have to run horizontally??
