Pump size for a 75 gal.

I'm thinking that I may want to get a bigger pump for my 75 gal with a 20 gal sump. The pump came with my 55 gal. setup and I upgraded to a 75. I don't even know what kind or what size it is. There is not a name on it, all it says is " Model 3 utility pump, BC99, E160713" I tried to look it up but I can't find a thing on it. Don't get me wrong, My tank is doing better than I ever imagined and has been, in my opinion, perfect for the last 1 1/2 years. I'm just thinking that I may want just a hair bit more flow. What brand and size pumps do you guys have on your 75 gal. with a sump??:)

I think Mag calls their plumps "Model" for their pond pumps and this one would be 350GPH. I have a Mag 7 on my 80G tank. It really depends on your overflow minus head loss (the higher the return pipe the less flow there will be). My overflow is rated at 600GPH, head loss due to a split (2) return brings the Mag 7 to almost perfect flow. I don't need to put a valve on my return to redirect flow back into the sump/refugium.

On my nano I have a Rio 1700 and a 300GPH overflow so I had to put a valve to redirect flow back into the sump - it's way too powerful but I had one so I used it.

Thanks for your response " Maxxumless" Now that you mention it, I think that it is "Mag" I do have a couple powerheads in the tank but I think I will bump up a notch or two on my pump.

I have a quiet one 4000 on my tank and IMO it's too much. It creates a lot of microbubbles in my tank. I think it would be more efficient to have slower flow through the fuge and use powerheads for circulation in the tank. JMO

It depends on how much your drains are capable of handling but I run a Mag 5 on my 75. I dont rely on the return for flow in any of my tanks. The Mag 5 works perfectly

+1 on the eheims though. Very well made pump that doesn't dump a lot of heat into your system.
