Pump Trade

I have a 1 month old mag 7 pump that I would like to trade for a Mag 5 in great shape. The mag 7 is just a little too much for my setup and I am having issues with microbubbles.

You could setup a re-circ to send some of the flow back to the sump so not all the flow goes into your tank, also how much water does your Mag pump sits in? I have a Mag 7 on my 55gal and it starts making bubbles when water just get above the body of the pump mine needs at least 2" of water above centerline of the inlet or it turns my 55 into a big skimmer.

The pump sits in well over 2" of water. This pump is on my 20 gallon display with a 10 gallon sump. The volume of water returning to the sump is so high that it fills the sump with micro bubbles. I am not sure what you mean by a re-circ, would that be a T in the return line with a ball valve to control the flow back into the sump? Does anyone have pics?

What kind of return nozzle do you use and does it have a siphon break? sometimes if you don't have enough back pressure on your nozzle into the tank the siphon break will allow air into you water flow and bubbles will shoot out the nozzle. Also I didn't mean it is sitting in 2" of water I meant I keep my Mag 7 in about 6-7" of water and 2" of water above the top of the pump. Maybe you could get a sponge to separate the water return and your mag pump. If not I have lots of extra pumps in my basement you can have for cheap($5-10) I don't really need another pump trying to get rid of some of them.

You could also add a ball valve between your pump and water return to the display tank and restrict water flow to your desired rate.

you can just buy a mag 5 impeller and swap it out. The pumps are identical.

I don't have a siphon break. The loclines that I use for the return are above the overflows, so they are there own siphon break if the power goes out.

I know what you meant about the water level, mine is in plenty of water.

I do have foam between my water return and my mag pump. I also have a foam prefilter on my mag 7. The bubbles are small enough that they get through both filters.
