you might get a bit of rattle and or hum, why no suction cups? if you dont have them you can just use a piece of foam or filter pad under it. you just want something soft that will help absorb the vibration.
I have a 2100 and took the suction cups off. It was a pain getting it off the bottom of my sump. Don't recall any additional noise. It's now held off the bottom by hard pipe plumbing.

If it isnt touching the bottom that is why you didnt get any extra noise. The noise comes from the pump vibrating and rattling against the glass/acrylic bottom of the sump.
i haven't put the pump into "production" yet, the reason for no suction cups is to make it easier to pull in and out of the sump if i need to do maintenance on it. i didn't think about the filter pad idea. thats what i'm going to end up doing. thanks!
