Pumps for Wavemaker?

While cleaning out my piles of fish stuff I found one of these:

Much to my surprise it still works. Since we giving our tank some upgrades I thought I'd see if I can put together a cheap wavemaker until I can save enough for a VorTech.

I have a bunch of MJ1200's but don't want to use them. Too much heat and power draw. Has anyone used a Koralia or Seio pump with this timer? If so, how did the pumps like the power cycling?

I read where someone got away with using the newer magnum koralias on a wavemakers. I think they were having problems with the ealier koralis running in the wrong direction or making a lot of noise on wavemakers.

yep he is right I put my k4s on timers trying to alternate them. It didn't work they ran backwards.

Thanks for the info - good thing I didn't run out and buy a couple. I guess the MJ's will go back in the tank for a while......

yep their right i tried as well... will not work .. mjs are a wavemakers friend LOL. the 900s are probably the best for power verses performance in my opinion

Buying the Vortech is the right move,Id get the large one so you dont have to get 2 of the 20s and then you can get the battery back up at a later date like right before hurricane season.Heck you can probably get a LFS to trade 4 of your RBTA for the battery back up.IMO buying a compromise has always just bought me time as I usually end up not happy till I get what I truly want.Which means I usually pay more then if I would of bit the bullet from the begining.

Well, I took apart and thoroughly cleaned two MJ1200's. Hooked them up to the wavemaker and they're off.

The good news is I'll be getting a VorTech 40 next month

Now to find time to finish the lights...
